HSR CMO Representing Maryland’s Interests in Opioid Epidemic Response at ASA Annual Meeting

HSR CMO Ram Peruvemba, MD, a board-certified Anesthesiologist and Pain Management physician, is serving as a Maryland Delegate to the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) currently taking place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The Annual Meeting began on Saturday, October 21st and runs until this Wednesday, October 25th, 2017.
The ASA seeks to position itself as the medical society that will have the greatest voice in the nation in terms of responding to the opioid crisis. The ASA’s House of Delegates are considering a number of policy recommendations that will determine the direction of the ASA as it related to the use and role of opioid is the American health system.
Among the topics under consideration are opioid prescription and dispensing guidelines, as well as guidelines surrounding the distribution and manufacture of opioid medications.
The Annual Meeting includes a late breaking session on Sunday, October 22, 2017 delivered by Health and Human Services CMO Vanila Singh, MD MACM on The Administration’s Response to the Opioid Crisis and ASA’s Contribution. Dr. Singh’s talk affirmed that addressing the opioid crisis is a central focus of the Administration.
